Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this place turned out to be a great nursing home is it earned an A+ in our inspections category. This is as good as it gets in this very important category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively insignificant. This place was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies to be an immediate threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Another reason we rated this nursing home so favorably is that it received an A+ short-term care score. This is flat out as strong as it gets in this category. Our short-term care scores are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. This nursing home is the gold standard when it comes to skilled nursing staffing. The facility offered approximately 50% more registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than a typical nursing home. This is what we look for when grading a nursing home in this category. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in this area with 78.7 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning our third area, this nursing home was awarded a strong long-term care score. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A in this area. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure residents are well cared for. One of the datapoints we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Unfortunately, it does not look like this nursing home submitted information on its vaccination levels. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
Turning to our fourth category, this facility also performed admirably in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B+ for this area. This completed a very impressive report card. Nursing ratings are based largely on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides an incredible 5.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. Very few nursing homes provide this quantity of nursing care to their patients. Out of that total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering impressive levels of care, this nursing home also excelled in the quality measures we looked at. It performed as well as any nursing home in the nation in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
