Nurse Quality
One of the reasons this place received a great overall grade is that it received an impressive nursing rating. In this category, we awarded this nursing home an A. Nursing grades are tied to quality and quantity of nursing care. This place boasts a really impressive 4.8 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, of which a significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. This is one of the higher totals of nursing hours we were able to find. On top of looking at levels of nursing care, we also looked at a few quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these datapoints as good indicators of the caliber of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Facility Inspections
Turning to inspections, this facility excelled in that area, which is based on the nursing home's government inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A for that category. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the next category, this nursing home also earned a score of B+ for its short-term care rating. This is an above average score in this category. In computing our short-term care scores, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to create a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of care from registered nurses to its residents. The final datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that 41.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home permanently.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to our next area, this facility was awarded a strong long-term care score. Although this was not quite as strong as many of its other scores, this is still one of the better scores a facility can receive. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. One of the criteria we considered after this nursing home's quality nursing hours is vaccinations. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 99.52381 percent of its patients. Vaccines are a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for seniors. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.29 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes.
