While this facility's overall grade was not a highlight, it received a somewhat respectable grade in nursing. We gave it a B- for that category. Our nursing rating focuses on the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of licensure of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Finally, although this place got docked a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in some of our quality metrics. With fewer than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it fared well in this area.

This facility's short-term care rating appears to be one of its respectable features. The nursing home received a grade of C in this area. Short-term care grades are generally used to score a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To have highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must provide higher levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its level of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we assessed. The critical question is whether this adversely affected quality of care. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that 4.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below the national average.

The third area we looked at is long-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a solid grade of C. Our long-term care grade is typically used to assess a facility's performance as a traditional nursing home, as opposed to focusing more on the skilled nursing services offered by a rehabilitation facility. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. We were pleased to discover that this facility vaccinated 99.170815 percent of its residents for pneumonia. This facility also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Lastly, this nursing home received a C. Inspection grades relate to a facility's government inspections. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively minor. This nursing home had 12 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were in categories G through L. This indicates CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent danger to patient health or safety. Lastly, this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.
