To go along with its favorable overall grade, we awarded this place an A+ for our inspection category. Our inspection ratings are based on many datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this category have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This nursing home also was given an A+ long-term care grade, rendering it one of the few facilities to be awarded several A+ category grades. When facilities receive this kind of score in long-term care it is usually a good sign for patient care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. One of the datapoints we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccines. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. This is a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the aged 65 and up population. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. Our nursing grade is based on quite a few factors, many of which are tied to nursing hours. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Grade: A-minus

In the final area, this nursing home also was given an impressive short-term care score, with an A-. This completed a rare straight A profile. Our short-term care grade is generally employed to score a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to have highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to offer better levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.2 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
