Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this facility's overall grade, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best scores in that category with a grade of A. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. It is generally best to avoid facilities that had too many deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Despite this deficiency, this place still had a relatively favorable report.
Long-term Care Quality
Additionally, we awarded this facility a B in our long-term care category. This happens to be one of our higher scores. For residents seeking a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. After we finished assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 90.545456 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed was short-term care. This facility's received a poor short-term care score where it was given a lowly F. Our short-term care ratings are critical for residents in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a wide spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Given its poor rating in this area, we weren't stunned to find this facility offered far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who eventually returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
Nurse Quality
The next category we analyzed is nursing. This nursing home received a rock bottom grade of F in that area. The nursing grade includes a number of data points. The most important one is the quantity of hours nurses spent with residents. This facility provided just 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. In addition to performing badly in terms of nursing hours, this place also had terrible marks in the quality-based metrics we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. For starters, we looked at the percentage of residents experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This place was at more than double the national average in both of these metrics. This is quite alarming when you consider that many bed sores and falls are preventable with better nursing care. This sealed this facility's fate of earning a weak nursing rating.
