Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
On top of receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. There are quite a few factors included in this grade. Most of the subcategories reflect nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a system of moving a resident more often.
Long-term Care Quality
To add to its elite performance in other areas, we awarded this facility a grade of A- for its long-term care score. When facilities receive this kind of score in this category it is a good sign for resident care and indicates that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses aids. After looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is far higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Facility Inspections
Another impressive feature of this nursing home is its inspection grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an A-. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this category most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we graded is short-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a decent grade of B-. This actually turned out to be this facility's worst category. In our short-term care score, we strive to forge a meaningful gauge for rehabilitation services. In this process, we analyze a facility's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last item we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that just 3.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
