Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Our inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this category generally have few of these severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Adding to its high-end assessment, this facility also received a strong long-term care grade, with a grade of A. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. After assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 99.23664 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.28 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home was given a favorable short-term care score as well. We awarded it one of our higher scores in that category with a grade of B+. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to grade a nursing home's rehabilitation services In order to offer highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. This facility provided more physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from this nursing home. In addition to excelling in the area of physical therapy, we found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in the nation with 56.3 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
The last area we graded proved to be this nursing home's poorest area. Nevertheless, even in its worst category we still awarded it a decent grade of B- in our nursing category. Our nursing grade includes many subcategories, but the main consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. Based on the CMS data, this nursing home offers 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in some quality-focused statistics. Specifically, we look at the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these areas as good measures of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
