Facility Inspections
It should be noted that this facility's inspection grade outpaced its overall score. In fact, we awarded it a B+ for its inspections rating, which is one of our better scores. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also received a strong score in our short-term care category. We awarded this nursing home a better than average grade of B+ in this area. Our short-term care ratings are vital for people in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a wide spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the number of residents that returned home from the facility. It performed better than most nursing homes in this area with 50.6 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
Another reason we rated this facility so highly is that it earned an A+ nursing grade. When determining a nursing home's nursing rating, we assess the number of hours nurses spend with patients and the level of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home provided 4.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is an impressive figure which typically leads to higher quality care. Finally, we also looked at nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these areas as good indicators of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's weakest category is long-term care, which is the final category we assessed. In this category, we awarded this facility a grade of just D. For patients seeking a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. In addition to providing impressive levels of nursing care and other staffing, this nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to 99.76526 percent of its patients. These scores were obviously more impressive than some of its other data points in this category. Surprisingly, this facility also fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 1.68 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
