Nurse Quality
In addition to a phenomenal overall grade, this facility also received A+ nursing grade. In determining our nursing ratings, we look at both staffing levels and the skill levels of those nurses. This place offers a very impressive 4.1 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is among the highest totals in Minnesota. Finally, this place also excelled in the quality-based metrics we looked at. For example, it fared as well as any facility the state in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We look at these metrics as predictive measures of the caliber of nursing care being provided.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also fared very well in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a grade of A. Not many facilities performed better in this category. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to qualify indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. This nursing home is respectable both in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. It outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the country with 57.5 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to another strength for this facility, we awarded them one of our more favorable grades in our long-term care category as well, with a B. Facilities that excel in this category typically provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. After considering the impressive nursing hours provided by this facility, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 98.71383 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the average nursing home. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.93 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Facility Inspections
In the final category we assessed, this facility received a good score in inspections as well. In fact, we awarded it a B for that category. This facility didn't have any major weak links. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some can be quite minor. While this facility had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.
