Facility Inspections
On top of receiving a great overall grade, this facility also received an A+ inspection grade. This grade is based on its recent inspection reports. An A+ in this category is one of the best complements we can pay to a facility. Arguably the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This place was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing score. This proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility an A+. Our nursing grade assesses several factors, but the most important one is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. With 5.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this nursing home surpassed the overwhelming majority of facilities. Lastly, this place also excelled in several of the quality measures we looked at. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on our next area, we gave this nursing home a grade of A for its long-term care score. This is a first-rate score. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in this category it is a good sign for patient care and indicates that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to providing very favorable levels of nursing care and other staffing, this nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. This combination proved to be effective as this facility also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.18 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we rated is short-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a solid grade of B-. This is this nursing home's worst area. In our short-term care score, we try to craft a fair measure for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we look at a nursing home's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last metric we considered in this category is the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 26.6 percent of this facility's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.
