Facility Inspections
In addition to faring well overall, this nursing home also earned a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that area with a grade of A+. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. We weren't able to locate deficiency data for this facility. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Adding to its first-rate resume, this facility also excelled in our short-term care area. In fact, we gave it a score of A- for the category. Our short-term care ratings are believed to be most critical for residents needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional skilled nursing. This means not only nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides a greater volume of physical therapist hours to its residents than the average nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return home from this facility. In addition to excelling in the area of physical therapy hours, we found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in the nation in this area with 68.1 percent of its residents returning home. Most facilities are below 50 percent in this statistic.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the next category, this facility also earned a score of B+ for its long-term care rating. This is an above average grade in this area. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. One of the datapoints we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccines. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 94.475136 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a reliable method to minimize unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the aged 65 and up population. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
The last area we looked at is nursing. We awarded this nursing home an acceptable score in this category, with a B-. Although this was not on par with some of its other grades, it is still not a bad grade. There are several criteria included in this category. Many of these data points are tied to the quantity of nurse staffing. This facility provided 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed admirably in this metric.
