Short-term Care Quality
In addition to being a strong facility overall, this facility also excelled in our short-term care category, where it received an A+. Our short-term care grades are probably more critical for people in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically requires more skilled nursing services. This includes not only nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. This facility excelled at the highest level in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It offered about 50% more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average nursing home. This is an excellent sign. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents that returned home from this facility. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy staffing, we found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in the country in this area with 66.9 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. In that category, we awarded this facility an A+. Our nursing score is primarily tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility boasts a really impressive 4.7 hours of nursing care per patient each day, of which a significant percentage was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering high levels of nursing care, this facility also excelled in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. With under 5 percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared as well as any nursing home the state in this category.
Facility Inspections
This facility also received a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that category with an A+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite minor. While this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
In the final area we scored, this facility received first-rate scores in the area of long-term care as well. As a result, it received an A+. This made it one of just a few of facilities we awarded A+'s in each of our categories. Facilities that excel in this category tend to provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. After looking at the impressive nursing hours and other staffing provided by this facility, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 99.62687 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.06 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home.
