We also wanted to point out that this nursing home earned near flawless government inspections recently. We gave them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This top-shelf nursing home also fared very well in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a score of A+. Only a small group of nursing homes fared better in this category. Facilities that receive this kind of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to ensure patients are well cared for. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 98.8024 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly is often a life threatening ailment for nursing home patients so we like it when a facility doesn't take any chances. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. With 1.98 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this place was close to average in this area.

In forming our short-term care scores, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to devise a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. This place performed as well as just about any facility in the nation in this area with 64.6 percent of its residents returning home. Most facilities are below 50 percent in this statistic.
