Facility Inspections
Although we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it earned a very impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that area with a B. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively insignificant. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Despite this deficiency, this nursing home still received a relatively positive report.
Long-term Care Quality
We were also pleasantly surprised to find that this facility received a somewhat respectable long-term care grade in our assessment. We awarded it a C in this category. Our long-term care ratings are based on a facility's quantity of care. This includes a vast range of personal care services, ranging from help with activities of daily living to routine medical services. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. We were pleased to discover that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Lastly, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality
In addition, we gave this facility an F in the area of nursing care. There are quite a few criteria within this grade. Most of the criteria reflect nurse staffing. This facility offered a meager 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is not a very impressive figure. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This nursing home fared well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these statistics to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we rated is short-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F in this area, which is a rock bottom grade. Our short-term care scores are thought to be most meaningful for residents requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Based on its score in this category, we weren't surprised to find that this place was well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the data we looked at. Honestly, this was about what we expected to find. Lastly, we considered the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
