Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

To pair with its strong overall score, we awarded this facility an A for short-term care. Short-term care grades are generally employed to grade a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to provide good rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to feature higher levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last statistic we considered in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that 5.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category. Nursing ratings are primarily based on a nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home Massachusetts in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a protocol of moving a resident more frequently.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Moving on our third area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for its long-term care score. This is a first-rate score. For patients seeking a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. Once we concluded our assessment of the quantity of nursing care, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 90.56604 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

For the last category we assessed, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned a score of B+. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better grades in this category usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 6 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
