Long-term Care Quality
To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. In addition to offering very favorable levels of nurse staffing, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 99.52607 percent of its patients. This figure is also significantly better than most nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.49 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this nursing home earned excellent health inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better scores in that category, with an A-. Our inspection ratings weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this category generally have few severe deficiencies. This nursing home was hit with 10 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
This facility received even higher grades in the area of nursing. In fact, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A-. Nursing scores are tied to quality and quantity of nursing care. This nursing home offers extremely high levels of nursing care, averaging 4.5 hours per patient per day. This is more nursing care than nearly any other place provides. Finally, this place was also above average in each of the major quality measures we looked at in this category. For example, it performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a nursing home provides.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the next category, this facility really did not perform very well. Due to a bottom of the barrel grade of F in that category, this is notably this facility's weakest category. In forming our short-term care ratings, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to create a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of various facilities. In this nursing home's case, we found that it provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 28.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
