Long-term Care Quality
We also found that this facility excelled in our long-term care rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. When nursing homes receive this type of score in this category it is usually a good sign for patient care and indicates that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Facility Inspections
We also wanted to emphasize this facility's nearly flawless health inspections in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of A in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some can be quite minor. This nursing home received 10 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This indicates that the inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies an immediate threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality
In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B. There are a variety of criteria included in this area. Most of these subcategories reflect the quantity of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a policy of moving a resident more frequently.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we looked at was short-term care, where this nursing home received a grade of C. This is this facility's weakest category. This is still not a terrible score. Short-term care grades are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a broad scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we weren't able to track down registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this nursing home. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who eventually returned home from this facility. We found that 4.7 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually well below average.
