Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this facility received even higher grades in the category of short-term care. In fact, it received one of our best grades in that area with an A. In computing our short-term care ratings, we look at the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This score is considered to be a meaningful measure of a facility's rehabilitation. It doesn't appear that this nursing home provided information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. The final item we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 6.9 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Among this facility's other strengths is its elite nursing grade. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of A-. Our nursing rating is mostly based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility Massachusetts in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a system of turning a resident at least once a day.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

Another area of strength for this facility is in inspections. In fact, inspections proved to be one of its best categories. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a B. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This tells you the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The final category we analyzed was long-term care. This nursing home received a strong long-term care score this year, with a B. This nursing home truly didn't have any weak categories. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 96.83258 percent of its patients, which is better than the average nursing home. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
