Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While this nursing home's overall grade was not bad, it really fared well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This facility received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to be an immediate threat to resident safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The second highest area we gave this nursing home in any area came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. Our short-term care scores are believed to be more critical for residents needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not just nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we weren't able to locate information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The last item we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this category. In calculating a facility's nursing score, we consider the number of hours nurses are caring for residents and the level of licensure of those nurses. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the number of hours of care offered.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The final area we graded was long-term care, which turned out to be this nursing home's weakest area. We awarded this facility a D in this area. Unfortunately, this category pulled down the nursing home's overall profile a bit. For prospective patients seeking a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the vaccine to 97.6 percent of its residents, which is a very solid datapoint. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
