Facility Inspections
On top of being a first rate facility overall, it also performed well in inspections, where it received an A. Not many facilities performed better in this area. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This tells you the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are rare in this industry.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, this turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. In computing our nursing grades, we factor in both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by having a policy of moving patients at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was strong in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of A. Not many nursing homes fared better in this area. In our short-term care assessment, we seek to forge a fair gauge for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.4 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the final category, this nursing home also performed admirably in our long-term care category. We gave it a B+ for that category. This completed a first-rate report card. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients out of the hospital. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
