Long-term Care Quality
One of the main reasons this proved to be a strong facility is that it received a very impressive long-term care grade. In fact, this was its best grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an A. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Facility Inspections
This facility also excelled in inspections. In fact, we gave it an A for that category, which is one of our best grades. This is one of the few facilities with an overall score in this range which earned multiple category grades this high. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of C. While this didn't quite match its scores in some of the categories discussed above, this is still a decent score. The nursing score consists of quite a few components, most of which are based on nursing hours. This facility averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is not an impressive total. Lastly, nursing ratings also factor in quality-based measures, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this place actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is often a good indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a nursing home supplies enough nurses to assist its residents.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's least impressive category was short-term care, which is the final area we scored. For this category, we gave this nursing home a D. Our short-term care grade is generally used to measure a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To offer high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. It appears that this facility was below average in many staffing areas we looked at. It provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 0 percent of its patients returning home. This was quite a bit below average.
