Short-term Care Quality
One of the reasons this proved to be a quality facility is it received a very impressive short-term care rating. In fact, short-term care is its best category. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A. With our short-term care category, we attempt to forge a fair barometer for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess the facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. One of this nursing home's strengths is physical therapy hours. We found that it offers at least 50% more hours with physical therapists to its residents than most other facilities. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the nation in this area with 63.9 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.
Facility Inspections
Adding to its impressive category grades, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Our inspection scores are tied to several pieces of information located in the a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this category typically have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Nurse Quality
We also awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our nursing grade. In computing our nursing grades, we assess both nursing hours and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home offers extremely high levels of nursing care, averaging 4.1 hours per resident on a daily basis. This is more nursing care than nearly any other nursing home provides. Lastly, this place also performed well in several of the quality measures we assessed. In terms of the percentage of its residents suffering falls which lead to serious injury, this nursing home performed as well as any facility in the nation.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's weakest area is long-term care, which is the final category we assessed. In this area, we awarded this facility a grade of D. We want to to draw your attention to this possible weakness, but you shouldn't dwell on one category either. For prospective residents seeking a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. On top of offering favorable levels of nursing care, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 98.19495 percent of its patients. These marks were notably more impressive than several of its other marks in the category. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.11 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
