Facility Inspections
This nursing home earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We gave them an A in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some can be quite insignificant. This nursing home was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to create an immediate threat to resident health or safety. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are rare in this industry.
Long-term Care Quality
Additionally, we gave this facility a grade of B+ in our long-term care category. This happens to be one of our higher scores. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. After considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 99.73475 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home had 2.44 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this category. Nursing ratings are based largely on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides an impressive 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at a few nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these statistics. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed well in this metric. This is typically an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a system of turning patients at least once a day.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to our final area, we gave this facility a grade of D for short-term care. This was the nursing home's worst category score. Sadly, this score pulled down the nursing home's overall profile a bit. In computing our short-term care grades, we analyze a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This grade is generally a useful assessment of the facility's rehabilitation. In this nursing home's case, we found that it provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients that were able to return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 29.3 percent of its patients returning home.
