Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its excellent health inspections in recent years. We gave them an A- in this category. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received a great long-term care score. In fact, we gave it one of our most impressive grades in that area with a score of A-. For prospective residents seeking a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. One of the factors we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 84.97854 percent of its residents. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, we were pleased to find nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

We also gave this nursing home a decent score in the category of nursing care, with a grade of C. In computing our nursing ratings, we look at both staffing levels and the training levels of the nurses. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place excelled in some of the quality measures we assessed. It performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's weakest area is short-term care, which is the last area we assessed. In this area, we gave this nursing home a grade of D. In calculating our short-term care grades, we look at a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. This grade is generally a fair measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation. In this nursing home's case, we found that it provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The last datapoint we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics sunk this facility's short-term care score.
