Facility Inspections
While we were not complementary of this place's overall performance, it actually received an impressive inspection report this year with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that area with a B+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some can be quite minor. While this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This means the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
We also gave this nursing home a middle of the pack grade in the area of short-term care, with a B-. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to measure a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To provide highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have better levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. Unfortunately, this facility was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's next highest area came in the area of long-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of C. For prospective residents in need of a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. After we finished assessing the amount of nursing care, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. We were optimistic to find that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. This place keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
The next category we scored is nursing. This facility received a poor grade of F in this category. Our nursing score analyzes quite a few factors, however, the most important one is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is an alarmingly low total. In addition to receiving below average marks for nursing hours, this nursing home was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in calculating our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of residents suffering pressure ulcers and found this place was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this metric.
