Medical Staff Hours Per Patient (2019)
Nurse Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A. Our nursing grade analyzes several datapoints, however, the main one is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This place provides an incredible 4.7 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Out of that total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. On top of looking at levels of nursing care, we also looked at a few quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these areas as good indicators of the quality of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Facility Inspections
Turning to inspections, this facility excelled in that area, which is based on the nursing home's recent inspection reports. We awarded it an A for that category. Our inspection grades account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better grades in this category tend to have very few of these severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This tells you the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also was awarded a top-shelf short-term care grade. Indeed, this ended up being this facility's third best category grade. In that category, this facility received a score of A. In crafting our short-term care grades, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to formulate a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. This nursing home provides more services with physical therapists and registered nurses than most facilities we looked at. The final metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it was respectable in this area with 45.6 percent of its residents able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to our fourth area, this facility received a respectable long-term care score. While this is not as impressive as several of its other grades, this is still not a bad grade. In determining our long-term care scores, we assess the assistance with daily living offered to a facility's patients. After looking at the very respectable amount of nursing hours provided by this nursing home, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 99.6337 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. While it had 2.36 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted score was better than most facilities since it had some more complicated patients.
