Facility Inspections
While we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it earned a relatively impressive government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our more favorable scores in that area with a B. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite insignificant. This particular nursing home received 7 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Short-term Care Quality
Incredibly, we awarded this facility a grade of C for its short-term care score, which really isn't a bad grade. In crafting these short-term care grades, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to formulate a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. We found that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. The facility offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. It is still important to determine whether this is adversely impacting the quality of care. Finally, we considered the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. It performed respectably in this metric with 46.4 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Sadly, this nursing home only earned a grade of D for its long-term care score, which is not a very good score. Facilities that don't score well in this category often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in some of the areas of routine personal care we looked at. One of the statistics we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. Candidly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to a relatively low 88.59935 percent of its patients. We were also disappointed with its hospitalization rate. We found that this nursing home had 2.79 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is nearly twice the national average.
Nurse Quality
The final category we assessed is nursing, in which this facility was given a very poor score in this area as well. Sadly, it received an F for this category, which is definitely very concerning. There are a host of data points within this grade. Most of these subcategories reflect nurse staffing. This facility offered just 2.9 hours of nursing care per resident each day. On top of its below average nursing hour totals, this facility earned poor marks in several of the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing ratings. We found that a higher percentage of this place's residents sustained falls leading to serious injury. We believe that many falls could likely be prevented with better nursing care. This statistic contributed to this nursing home receiving a terrible nursing score.
