In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ short-term care grade. In computing our short-term care grades, we analyze the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This category is generally a meaningful assessment of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more than seven hours of care per week from registered nurses to each resident. This is really the gold standard in this area, as it's about 50% higher than the average facility's level of registered nurse staffing. The final item we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. It fared as well as just about any nursing home in Illinois in this area with 66.6 percent of its patients returning home.

Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A. Our nursing grade is largely based on a facility's nurse staffing. This place provided 3.8 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Approximately one-fourth of these hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled nurses. This is an impressive percentage of skilled nursing care. We weight these hours performed by skilled nurses more in determining our nursing ratings. Lastly, we also looked at some quality-based measures in this category. This facility fared well in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. By way of illustration, in terms of the percentage of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this facility performed better than the national average. This is generally an indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided with better nursing care.

Tallying yet another strong category grade, this facility also excelled in inspections, where it earned an A. Inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this category tend to have few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 7 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

The final category we graded was long-term care. We gave this facility a decent grade in that area, with a C. Even though this isn't as strong as several of its other scores, it is still not the end of the world. Long-term care scores are important for residents in need of non-healthcare services such as personal care. After assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. We were concerned by the fact that this facility vaccinated a relatively low 78.980896 percent of its residents against pneumonia. On a more positive note, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.14 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes.
