Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

The primary reason this facility received a decent overall score is its impeccable inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our better scores in that area, with an A-. This is a notably better score than the place's overall grade, which was decent but certainly not elite. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite insignificant. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The second highest area we awarded this nursing home in any area came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a B-. In crafting our short-term care scores, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to create a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. We found that this facility was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. In fact, it provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. It is still important to determine whether this is adversely impacting the quality of care. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of C, which is a decent grade. In determining our nursing scores, we assess both staffing levels and the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is well below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility surprisingly excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the number of hours of care offered.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next area we scored is long-term care, which turned out to be this nursing home's weakest area. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F in this area, which is clearly a major concern. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this place also keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
