Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We gave this facility an A for our long-term care grade. This is much more impressive than the facility's overall score. For patients looking for a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 91.28788 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be a bit below what we were hoping for but still a decent percentage. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

This facility also earned a strong nursing grade. We awarded it a grade of F in this area. The nursing score analyzes many components, most of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home offered only 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place fared well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next category we analyzed was short-term care, which ended up being this facility's worst area. It received an abysmal F in this category, which is clearly a major disappointment. Our short-term care ratings are crucial for individuals seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires additional highly-skilled nursing. This means a broad scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Considering its score in this area, we were not stunned to learn that this place was well below average in terms of the quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the figures we assessed. Honestly, this was what we expected here. The last datapoint we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 3.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics was damning for this nursing home's short-term care score.
