This nursing home earned a nursing rating which is better than its overall rating. We awarded this place an above average score of B+ in this category. Our nursing score is based on the facility's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

This nursing home's next most favorable area is long-term care. We gave it a grade of B- in this category. This is basically a slightly below average grade in this area. In the category of long-term care, we analyze the quantity of care provided by a nursing home, rather than more sophisticated services. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. This place also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

This facility received its third best category grade in the area of inspections. Inspection scores are based on a facility's recent government inspection reports. We gave this facility a grade of C in this area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. This place was hit with 5 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but none were in category J, K or L. This indicates the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to put resident safety or health in immediate harm or jeopardy. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.

The last category we analyzed was short-term care, which is a weak spot for this nursing home. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D for our short-term care category. Our short-term care grade is often used to measure a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To have good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to offer higher levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Given its grade in this area, we weren't stunned to learn that this nursing home is well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the data we assessed. Honestly, this was about what we expected here. Finally, we considered the number of residents who ultimately returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 2.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
