Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This nursing home's short-term care rating ended up being one of its best scores. The facility received a grade of C in this category. In forming these short-term care ratings, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to create a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The key is determining what effect this had on the quality of care. The last statistic we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 5.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.

One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of C. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility surprisingly fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It scored well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the quantity of hours of care provided.

The last category we scored was long-term care, which proved to be this facility's worst area. Unfortunately, we gave it an F in this category, which is obviously very concerning. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it typically means the nursing home did not perform well in our measures relating to patient care. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 90 percent of its residents. This is several points less than average. Surprisingly, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This was its best score in this category.
