Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although we gave this facility a poor overall score, we gave it a somewhat respectable grade in the category of inspections, where it received a B-. This was quite a bit better than its other category grades. Our inspection ratings are tied to several items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. While this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is not a bad score. Our nursing grade is primarily based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides only 0.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a somewhat concerning figure as it is well below the national average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. Although this place got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in a few of these quality measures. With less than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it fared very well in this subcategory. This is often a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving patients even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The third category we looked at is short-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a solid grade of B-. Short-term care grades are typically used to score a facility's performance with rehabilitation To have good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must offer higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The last statistic we looked at in this area is the number of patients who returned home from the facility. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Turning to the next area, this nursing home received a grade of B- for long-term care, which is generally a respectable score. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 94.91525 percent of its patients, which is higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
