Facility Inspections
To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home an A for our inspections rating. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility a score of A- for our long-term care score. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are kept in good health. Once we finished looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 99.6633 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia is often a life or death ailment for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility does not leave its residents vulnerable. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality
Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B. The nursing score includes a number of subcategories. The most heavily weighted variable is the quantity of hours nurses spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a policy of moving a patient more frequently.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we looked at was short-term care, in which this nursing home was awarded a grade of B-. This actually turned out to be this facility's weakest area. This is nevertheless a middle of the pack score. In the area of short-term care, we try to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last datapoint we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.
