Facility Inspections
Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. We believe that one of the most important factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially look at the severity of the deficiencies. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility ended up receiving a a very poor grade in our long-term care category. It was given an F in this category. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means the nursing home did not perform well in our measures relating to resident care. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 70.4607 percent of its residents. This is many points less than the national average. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This was its best score in this category.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility wound up receiving a a very poor grade in our short-term care area. It received a lowly F in this category. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to assess indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. With a grade in this range for this area, we weren't shocked to find that this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. In fact, it provided significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The final datapoint we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who ultimately returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.8 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
The next category we assessed was nursing, where this nursing home received a bottom of the barrel grade in this area also. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this category, which is obviously a major disappointment. Our nursing grade includes a number of subcategories. The most important factor is the amount of time nurses spend with residents. This place provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also didn't fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This nursing home had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average facility.
