Short-term Care Quality
This facility really excelled in our short-term care rating, with an A- in this area. This really propped up its overall score. Short-term care grades are generally used to judge a facility's rehabilitation services. To have good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to offer better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents that returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home performed better in this area than in its staffing levels. It fared as well as just about any facility with 66.1 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. Nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an B. In determining a nursing home's nursing score, we consider the number of hours nurses are with patients and the skill levels of the nurses. With 4.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day, this place surpassed the overwhelming majority of facilities. Lastly, this facility also excelled in the quality measures we looked at. It performed as well as any facility the nation in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Facility Inspections
This facility also earned a strong inspection score. Inspection grades are based on the nursing home's recent government inspections. We awarded this nursing home a B in this area. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe made us feel better about this inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the last category, this facility received a decent long-term care grade of C. In crafting these long-term care ratings, we quantify the nursing home's personal care services. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 93.21267 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Nevertheless, this place also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 1.66 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
