Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a grade of B- for our nursing rating. We assessed the licensure of nurses employed by the facility, as well as the quantity of hours the nurses worked with residents, in determining our score in this category. This nursing home provides 5 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is better than average. In computing our grades, we apply additional weight to hours performed by more highly trained nurses such as registered or licensed nurses. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in some quality-focused statistics. Specifically, we look at the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these areas as predictive measures of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these problems.

We were also pleasantly surprised to learn that this facility earned a somewhat respectable short-term care grade this year. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. Our short-term care scores are critical for patients seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care from registered nurses than the typical nursing home. The final item we assessed in this area is the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

We were also stunned to find that this facility received a decent long-term care score in our assessment. We gave it a grade of C in that area. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. After we finished looking at the volume of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. We were optimistic to learn that this nursing home vaccinated 98.59155 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

The final category we looked at was inspections. This nursing home did not receive favorable government inspection reports in recent years. As a result, we gave it an F in this category. With nursing homes that received this poor of an inspection rating, we would scrutinize the severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This particular nursing home was assessed 7 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only positive thing we can say is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they created a threat to resident safety or health. Finally, CMS flagged this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. This is not what you want to see. We advise you to direct your search elsewhere.
