Nurse Quality

Grade: A

One of the reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. In fact, nursing turned out to be its best category. In that category, we gave this facility an A. There are a variety of subcategories included in this category. Many of the subcategories relate to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Adding to its impressive profile, this facility also performed at a high level in the category of inspections. In fact, it earned a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with an B+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some are relatively minor. While this place had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility is also above average in the area of long-term care, where it was given a score of B+. It performed more favorably than most nursing homes in this category. When facilities receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is a good sign for patient care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 96.49123 percent of its patients, which is more than the majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The final category we rated is short-term care, where this facility was awarded a grade of B. This facility did not prove to have any weaknesses. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last metric we assessed in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
