Facility Inspections
We want to point out that this nursing home outperformed its overall score in the category of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our highest scores in this category with an A+. Inspection ratings are based on pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this area tend to have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few relatively minor dings aren't something to panic about.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility's second highest category came in the area of long-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B-. Long-term care ratings are based on a facility's amount of care. This means a vast spectrum of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine medical services. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Thankfully, this facility administered the vaccine to 98.39228 percent of its patients, which is a very respectable datapoint. This place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality
Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-, which is a decent grade. In computing our nursing scores, we analyze both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home excelled in some of the quality measures we assessed. In fact, it scored well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be good measures of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is as important as the number of hours of care provided.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed is short-term care, is this nursing home's worst category. We gave this facility a D in this category. This really is one of the few weak points on an otherwise strong profile. In our short-term care assessment, we try to craft a valuable gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess the facility's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. In this nursing home's case, we found that it provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 4.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
