To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. The nursing grade weighs quite a few components, but the most important consideration is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

This nursing home also received a virtually flawless inspection. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that area with an A+. This is one of the few places to receive multiple A+ category grades. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively minor. This facility was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies to create an imminent risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This facility also was strong in the category of long-term care, where it received a score of A-. Not many facilities fared better in this area. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. We weren't able to locate this facility's vaccination rates. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Turning to our next category, this facility was given a strong short-term care score. We gave it an A- in that area, rounding out a straight A profile. Our short-term care ratings are considered to be most critical for individuals needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually utilizes additional skilled nursing services. This includes not only nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final statistic we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 4.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
