Facility Inspections
Although we did not rate this nursing home favorably overall, we want to point out its relatively solid health inspections in recent years. We gave it a respectable grade of B+ in this category, which is much better than its overall grade. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively minor. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home was given its next best category grade in the area of short-term care. We gave this facility a grade of C in this category, which is a respectable score. Our short-term care grade is commonly employed to grade a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to offer good rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. We were surprised to find that this facility was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it supplied fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. It is still important to determine whether this also correlates to a lower quality of care. The final metric we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality
Unfortunately, we gave this facility an F for its nursing grade. Nursing ratings are primarily based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This place offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This figure is significantly below average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This place performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we analyzed was long-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F for this area, which is a rock bottom score. For patients in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. Once we finished looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. We were pleased to learn that this facility vaccinated 95 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
