In addition to being a first-rate facility overall, this nursing home also excelled at short-term care, where it received a grade of A+. Few facilities fared better in this area. Our short-term care grades are probably more meaningful for people in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more highly-skilled nursing services. This means not only nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. This place excelled in the two key staffing areas we assessed. In fact, it offered about 50% more care from registered nurses and physical therapists than the average nursing home. This is definitely a great sign. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who eventually returned home from this nursing home. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy hours, we found that it fared as well as just about any facility in the nation in this area with 65.9 percent of its residents returning home.

Among its many high-end scores, this nursing home received an excellent long-term care score. In fact, it received a score of A in that area. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. After looking at the significant amount of nursing care provided by this nursing home, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the average nursing home. This combination proved to be effective as this nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Switching gears to the last area, this facility was awarded a highly favorable nursing rating. We awarded it a grade of B+ in this area, completing one of our finer profiles. Our nursing grade is based on the facility's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of skill of those nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with patients. This facility boasts a really impressive 4.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, of which a significant percentage was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. On top of providing impressive levels of nursing care, this nursing home also excelled in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. With below five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared as well as any facility the state in this category. This is typically an indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Many pressure ulcers could be prevented by offering better nursing care and a system of turning patients even once per day.
