Facility Inspections
Although we didn't give this place a good overall score, we did give it a relatively strong grade in the category of inspections, where it received a grade of B+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite insignificant. This facility received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to be an immediate threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second best category came in the area of long-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. Long-term care ratings are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of care. This includes a vast scope of personal care services, ranging from help with activities of daily living to routine medical services. One of the factors we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Fortunately, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.6 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than most nursing homes.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second least favorable category is short-term care, where it received just a D in that category. This is a relatively poor grade. In our short-term care assessment, we seek to forge a fair measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze the facility's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Given its grade in this area, we weren't stunned to discover that this nursing home is well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the figures we assessed. Honestly, this was about what we expected to find. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This wasn't a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
Nurse Quality
The final area we graded is nursing, proved to be this facility's worst category. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in that category. In determining a nursing home's nursing grade, we consider the number of hours nurses commit to patients as well as the levels of training of those nurses. This nursing home averages 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is below the national average. On top of receiving below average marks for nursing hours, this place was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of residents suffering pressure ulcers and found this place was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this metric. This is a bad sign when you consider that so many bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. This statistic dragged down this nursing home's nursing grade substantially.
