Facility Inspections

Grade: A+

We also wanted to emphasize that this nursing home earned near flawless inspections in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this category. Inspection grades are tied to many items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this category typically have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This facility received 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies to be an immediate risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Adding to its profile, this nursing home also earned a score of B+ for its long-term care rating. This is an above average score in this category. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are well cared for. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 65.81632 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be a bit below what we expected but still a respectable figure. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, at least this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B. There are quite a few datapoints within this category. Most of the criteria are tied to the quantity of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of turning a patient at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final area we graded was short-term care. We gave this facility a solid score in that area, with a B-. Even though this isn't as strong as many of this facility's other grades, it is nevertheless a middle of the pack score. In determining our short-term care ratings, we size up a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This grade is generally a meaningful measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who eventually returned home from this nursing home. We found that 4.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually well below the national average.
