This nursing home received a quality overall grade as described above, but we especially wanted to emphasize its nearly flawless health inspections in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of A in this category. Arguably the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this category most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This means that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

Adding to this nursing home's list of accomplishments, it also was awarded a superb short-term care grade. We awarded them an impressive strong of A- in this area. In the category of short-term care, we try to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. It doesn't appear that this facility provided registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. The final measure we looked at in this category is the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that it performed better than most nursing homes in this area with 54.9 percent of its patients returning home.

Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. In calculating our nursing ratings, we analyze both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of those nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these datapoints as predictive indicators of the caliber of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.

Historical

The last category we looked at is long-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home an acceptable grade of B-. This was this nursing home's worst category. In a long-term care environment, the primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We found that this facility vaccinated a relatively low 74.29467 percent of its residents, which is quite a bit lower than we expected. On a more positive note, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
