Facility Inspections
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of B-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing score. Nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this facility an C. We scrutinized the levels of nurses employed by the nursing home, as well as the quantity of time those nurses worked with patients, in determining our grade in this category. This place averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day, which is well below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home actually fared better in some of the quality measures we assessed. It scored well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the number of hours of care offered.

Long-term Care Quality
Surprisingly, we gave this nursing home a grade of C for its long-term care grade, which is not too bad of a score. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. After we finished looking at the volume of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. We were pleased to discover that this facility vaccinated 97.46377 percent of its patients against pneumonia. This place also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the next category, this nursing home really didn't perform very well here either. With a rock bottom grade of F in short-term care, this is about as bad as it gets. With our short-term care assessment, we endeavor to craft a sound measure for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we assess the facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final metric we assessed in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics doomed this nursing home's short-term care grade.
