This facility's overall score was bolstered by the fact that it has received favorable health inspections in recent years. We gave them a strong score in this category, with a B+. This is a much better grade than the nursing home's overall grade. Inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia is too frequently a dangerous health condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Switching gears to our last category, we gave this facility a D for nursing. This was the nursing home's weakest category grade. Sadly, this score hurt the nursing home's overall profile a bit. To pair with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This facility had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These statistics pulled down this nursing home's nursing grade significantly.
