Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is just about as good as it gets in this area. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. Unfortunately, we were not able to locate information on deficiency's for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Another reason we graded this facility so favorably is that it was given an A+ long-term care grade. This is flat out as dominant as it gets in this area. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. In addition to offering very impressive levels of nursing care, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. This percentage is also far better than the average nursing home. This combination proved to be successful as this nursing home keeps its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Nurse Quality
Another reason we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Our nursing rating is based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This place provides an incredible 6 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Out of that total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering impressive levels of nursing care, this nursing home also excelled in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. With under five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared as well as any place the nation in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to the final area, this nursing home also was awarded an A+ short-term care grade, leaving it as one of just a few of nursing homes to earn all A+'s. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. This place excelled in two key staffing areas we looked at. The facility offered about 50% more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the typical facility. The last datapoint we assessed in this category is the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in Ohio in this area with 64 percent of its residents returning home.
