Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

We gave this nursing home a B- for our long-term care rating, which was certainly better than its overall score. In computing our long-term care scores, we look at the facility's ability to maintain its permanent residents' health and quality of life. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. We were pleased to find that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility an B-. When computing our nursing grades, we assess both staffing levels and the training levels of those nurses. This facility provides only 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a somewhat alarming figure as it is well below the national average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics. While this nursing home got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in a few of these quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it did well in this metric. This can be a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving patients at least once a day.

Facility Inspections

Sadly, this facility received a grade of just D in our inspection category. This is well below average grade. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. This nursing home had 5 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we found is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they posed a risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility also received 10 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's weakest category was short-term care, which is the last area we scored. For this area, we awarded this facility a grade of just D. In crafting these short-term care scores, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to create a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we assessed the number of patients that were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
