Facility Inspections
On top of being a great nursing home overall, it also received A+ inspections recently. Its inspections were virtually flawless. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are quite insignificant. While this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
We also wanted to point out the fact that this facility excelled in our short-term care rating. We gave them an impressive score of A+ in this category. Our short-term care grades are believed to be more meaningful for folks in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. One of this place's strengths is registered nurse hours. This facility offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. The last datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in New Hampshire in this area with 71.6 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, at most nursing homes, less than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.
Nurse Quality
This first-rate facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our nursing grade assesses the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the amount of time spent with residents. This particular facility provided 5.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This was one of the more impressive figures we found. In addition, we found that a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. These are both really impressive figures. On top of providing high levels of care, this nursing home also excelled in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. With below 5 percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category.
Long-term Care Quality
In the final category, this facility was awarded another A+ for its long-term care rating, completing a clean sweep of A+'s in all four categories. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. After considering the impressive nursing hours and other staffing provided by this facility, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
